Empresa i Societat connects ESADE to society through socially-conscious activities and events. We work towards improving the lives of others while giving students the opportunity to develop their own social projects. Our a team is composed of 37 motivated young ESADE students who direct several events and projects which have as an ultimate goal to add value and have a social impact to the society we live in.
In the new edition of Jail Break we are back with an exciting and amazing event which is the JAIL BREAK,get into a group of 3 with your friends and you will be given 30h to go as far from Barcelona as you can without spending a cent. the goal is to raise money for the association Sant Joan de Deu. You will have to fundraise and find sponsors to fund your trip, hitchhike or ask for free tickets explaining the cause, in order to be the winner team reaching the farthest destination and be awarded with a prize.
About hospital Sant Joan de Deu
The Hospital of Sant Joan de Deu is one of the main references of the Catalan University of pediatrics, obstetrics, gynecology and other fields of specialization, including neurociencias, neonatology, oncology and cardiology and is the 3rd biggest pediatric hospital in Europe.
In order to build the pediatric center that will be specialized in curing childhood cancer ( cáncer del desarrollo ) the hospital has already raised 30 Million euros during their 1st phase.Indeed, childhood cancer is really different from the types of cancers that adults can be diagnosed with as it it relates to their development and can be developed soon after conception. Statistically, pediatric cancer is very rare and much more specific compared to adulthood cancer and so, the pharmaceutical companies do not find it profitable to investment in this field.
The construction that started on the International Childhood Cancer day on the 15th of February 2017 is aiming to be finalized by the end of the year 2020.
Throughout, our event we will be supporting their #Paralosvalientes campaign (meaning ‘for the brave’) that aims at fighting against childhood cancer. The second phase, that we will be supporting throughout our donations, is consisting of financing research, the costs of their international program and the cost of their humanization program that aims at changing the hostile view of the hospital to a more friendly and welcoming home for the children to stay during their treatment. For this latter, professionals such as therapeutic clowns and dogs are employed to help the children focus on their exercise or increase their confidence, happiness and strength during their treatments.
The third phase, that we hope to help them to reach, will enable them to buy more equipments for the research and open new operations rooms as facilities to stay for the families to stay.
As you may not know, donations are the only way to fund research for childhood, making it necessary that each of you gets involved and supports your favorite team to fight for the Braves !
Thus, we have decided to help the Hospital Sant Joan de Deu in their project of building a pediatric cancer center by raising funds for them that will go towards their current 5 goals:

Heal more children: Every year 1200 children in Spain contracts a cancer that can be of 40 different type.

Find a cure for the 20% of cases that they are not yet able to entirely cure.

Reduce the harsh side effect of the treatment. Indeed, even if nowadays we are able to cure this 80 % of cases, the aggressive treatment leave big consequences on the children that deeply affects their future quality of life.

Assist families during the process and provide accommodation for their stay next to the center throughout the treatment of their child.

Get a deeper knowledge of different and newer types of cancer that can develop in children.
